Important Information about Dating and Sourcing Policies (Added: 7 July 2010)

NCAC is responding to feedback from services that the requirement to date and source policies is causing some difficulty. The requirement to provide retrieval dates for information accessed from websites has been relaxed. However services must continue to clearly identify in their policies:

  • the date the policy was developed or reviewed and;
  • the information source/recognised authority on which the policy was based. For example, the name of the publication or website. For example:

It is important for services to regularly review policies in collaboration with educators and families and at the same time research current recommendations from recognised authorities. Dating and sourcing policies is an important step in the development and review of policies. Documenting the date and source on each policy indicates the currency of the information and can also serve as a timely reminder when a further review is due. It also demonstrates that the practice described in the policy is relevant, researched and considered to be current best practice by a recognised authority.

Submit Reports and Forms Online (Added: 7 June 2010)

NCAConline is a web based system that has been developed to provide child care services with access to a secure online environment where they can submit reports and forms to NCAC and update contact and postal details. We will be providing services with information about setting up an account, progressively based on Self-study Report due dates and visit dates.

More information about the system, including demonstrations, screens shots and information about how to request an account, is available from the NCAConline page.

Child Care Quality Assurance to continue until December 2011 (Added: 21 May 2010)

Some child care services have recently expressed confusion regarding the continuation of the current Child Care Quality Assurance systems. NCAC understands that while the impending transition to the National Quality Framework for Early Education and Care is an exciting step, this is also a challenging time for many services.

NCAC is in the process of planning the transition from the Child Care Quality Assurance systems and will advise services as soon as decisions have been made. In the interim all services need to continue working with the current Child Care Quality Assurance systems and be prepared for a Spot Check, to submit Self-study Reports and undertake Validation Visits when due until December 2011. This also means that until further notice, services should continue to use the standards outlined in the relevant Quality Practices Guide to support their quality practices.

NCAC will remain committed to supporting services to provide quality care and experiences for all children in child care. If you have any further questions, please telephone a NCAC Child Care Adviser on 1300 136 554.
